Ming-Zhu Hii

Ming-Zhu, a 2002 graduate of the VCA School of Drama, has performed with major companies and organisations such as MTC, STC, Malthouse, STSA, the Melbourne International Arts Festival, and the Adelaide International Festival, including the highly lauded 2002 performance installation, Lifeline, by German director and theatre artist, Uwe Mengel.

Her acting work with independent theatre companies includes the critically acclaimed 2004 production of Traitors (The Branch Theatre Co.), and Here Theatre's The Time is Not Yet Ripe. She wrote, performed, and co-directed the solo work, Y. which premiered at the Meat Market for the 2006 Next Wave Festival. As part of the 2007 SPARK program (Ozco/YAQ), she developed TWO, an installed performance, exploring the borders between performance, domestic space, and installed video. She is also the Associate Producer of Kitty Green’s award winning VCA short, SPILT, which was preselected for the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2009, Ming-Zhu will sit on Green Room panels for both Independent Theatre and Hybrid and Alternative Forms. She will shortly be appearing in MTC’s upcoming, premiere production of Realism. Ming-Zhu is developing a new work for The Melbourne Town Players in 2009, entitled Attract/Repel. With Nicholas Coghlan, Ming-Zhu is also the co-proprietor of The Screen Test Studio, Melbourne's first, dedicated online audition studio.
